When the Virginia Tech shootings occurred April 16th, the crew quickly responded. Youth producer, RayLynn Prokasky, quickly grabbed a camera and a mic and started talking to people about the tragic event. Other segments in the works are a piece where new crewmember, Pedro Rabadan-Medina, turns the camera on himself to make a short auto-biography as well as a music video of featuring local band “Just The End” and an original song about the war in Iraq. The “Violence” episode will premiere Monday, May 14th. So, don’t forget to watch Set It Up on Monday nights at 7pm on Channel 16 in St. Paul!

NYMAP Video Exchange

In January, SPNN Youth Channel 16 began its’ ground breaking association with the National Youth Media Access Project (NYMAP) Video Exchange, putting SPNN on the cutting edge of youth media. Here are some of the details.

The National Youth Media Access Project is a partnership among public access centers from across the country committed to expanding services to young people. Initiated by the Manhattan Neighborhood Network Youth Channel, NYMAP seeks to nurture the right of free speech, to strengthen the much-needed presence of alternative and youth voices, and to connect young media makers from diverse backgrounds. Through NYMAP, a technical and organizational infrastructure is being created to support the continued and sustainable exchange of youth-produced broadcast-quality video among public access centers across the country and world. Practically speaking, what this means is that videos are being shared via the internet, between Access Centers all over the country. In February, SPNN Channel 16 will be airing NYMAP videos on Tuesday nights at 7PM, including an amazing video call Beyond the Hijab, made at Manhattan Neighborhood Network, and Prom Night, a video made at Grand Rapids Community Media Center.
