Girls in the Director’s Chair Festival

Two of the creators of “Diversity”

On Saturday March 3rd, four videos made by young people at SPNN will be featured in the Girls in the Director’s Chair Festival at the Walker Art Center. The showing is free and open to the public, and includes four screenings all day long. For more information on the showing, visit www.walkerart.org. Congratulations to all of the media makers whose work was accepted! Here are descriptions of their videos:

NYMAP Video Exchange

In January, SPNN Youth Channel 16 began its’ ground breaking association with the National Youth Media Access Project (NYMAP) Video Exchange, putting SPNN on the cutting edge of youth media. Here are some of the details.

The National Youth Media Access Project is a partnership among public access centers from across the country committed to expanding services to young people. Initiated by the Manhattan Neighborhood Network Youth Channel, NYMAP seeks to nurture the right of free speech, to strengthen the much-needed presence of alternative and youth voices, and to connect young media makers from diverse backgrounds. Through NYMAP, a technical and organizational infrastructure is being created to support the continued and sustainable exchange of youth-produced broadcast-quality video among public access centers across the country and world. Practically speaking, what this means is that videos are being shared via the internet, between Access Centers all over the country. In February, SPNN Channel 16 will be airing NYMAP videos on Tuesday nights at 7PM, including an amazing video call Beyond the Hijab, made at Manhattan Neighborhood Network, and Prom Night, a video made at Grand Rapids Community Media Center.
